Depuis <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fondation-grenoble-inp.fr\/en\/julien-hofmann-rejoint-lequipe-de-la-chaire-hydrolike\/\"><strong>son arriv\u00e9e dans l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de recherche<\/strong><\/a><strong> en 2020, il effectue une th\u00e8se visant \u00e0 identifier les m\u00e9canismes d&rsquo;endommagement des mat\u00e9riaux par la cavitation, aux laboratoires <a href=\"https:\/\/simap.grenoble-inp.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SIMaP<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legi.grenoble-inp.fr\/web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LEGI<\/a>. Julien a r\u00e9cemment particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la conf\u00e9rence BEST (Board of European STudents), une semaine de s\u00e9minaire organis\u00e9e par <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.best.eu.org\/index.jsp\"><strong>l&rsquo;Association BEST<\/strong><\/a><strong> pour des \u00e9tudiants europ\u00e9ens. \u00c0 cette occasion, il a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une introduction \u00e0 la cavitation et pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ses travaux de recherche. O\u00f9 en sont tes travaux de recherche aujourd&rsquo;hui ?<\/strong><\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-765c97a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"765c97a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>Pendant ces derniers mois, nous avons caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 le processus d&rsquo;endommagement dans son ensemble : la phase de <span style=\"font-style: normal !msorm;\"><em>pitting<\/em><\/span>, o\u00f9 l&rsquo;implosion d&rsquo;une bulle unique forme un trou, la phase d\u2019amor\u00e7age et de propagation des fissures et enfin la perte de masse. Pour cela des suivis temporels en surface par microscopie \u00e9lectronique \u00e0 balayage ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s permettant d&rsquo;obtenir des observations de l&rsquo;endommagement au cours du temps pour une m\u00eame zone. C&rsquo;est probablement quelque chose qui n&rsquo;a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 auparavant pour de l&rsquo;\u00e9rosion de cavitation. Ces observations de surface de l&rsquo;endommagement ont \u00e9t\u00e9 corr\u00e9l\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tat microstructural des mat\u00e9riaux. Pour compl\u00e9ter les observations de surface, des analyses <span style=\"font-style: normal !msorm;\"><em>in-situ<\/em><\/span> en volume, \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide de la tomographie aux rayons X en synchrotron, \u00e0 l&rsquo;ESRF \u00e0 Grenoble, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es. La sonotrode, permettant de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer la cavitation et ainsi d\u2019endommager le mat\u00e9riau, a \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9e dans la m\u00eame salle d\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation que le faisceau de rayons X. Ces essais r\u00e9ussis devraient ainsi permettre d&rsquo;observer la propagation des fissures en trois dimensions au cours du temps sur un m\u00eame \u00e9chantillon. Au cours des derniers mois, plusieurs communications scientifiques ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es avec notamment la publication d&rsquo;un article dans le journal Physics of Fluids (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.aip.org\/aip\/pof\/article-abstract\/35\/1\/017112\/2868913\/Comparison-of-acoustic-and-hydrodynamic-cavitation?redirectedFrom=fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00ab\u00a0Comparison of acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation: Material point of view\u00a0\u00bb<\/a><\/strong>), ainsi qu&rsquo;une pr\u00e9sentation et un poster \u00e0 l&rsquo;occasion de la conf\u00e9rence internationale d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 la cavitation IICR2023. Pour compl\u00e9ter les caract\u00e9risations, des simulations num\u00e9riques o\u00f9 les donn\u00e9es exp\u00e9rimentales sont impl\u00e9ment\u00e9es sont en train d&rsquo;\u00eatre conduites.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8b577f4 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8b577f4\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-13756cc\" data-id=\"13756cc\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-621883b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"621883b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<h2><strong>Au mois d\u2019avril, tu as particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la conf\u00e9rence BEST (Board of European STudents). Qu\u2019as-tu pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 durant celle-ci ?<\/strong><\/h2>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0f3c9d6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0f3c9d6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>\u00c0 l&rsquo;occasion de la conf\u00e9rence, j&rsquo;ai propos\u00e9 une pr\u00e9sentation scind\u00e9e en deux parties.<\/p><p>La premi\u00e8re partie \u00e9tait une introduction \u00e0 la cavitation. J&rsquo;ai d&rsquo;abord expliqu\u00e9 comment les bulles de cavitation naissent dans un liquide, comment ces bulles implosent et comment l&rsquo;implosion de ces bulles peut endommager des surfaces, notamment des turbines hydro\u00e9lectriques. Enfin j\u2019ai expliqu\u00e9 comment des pertes de masse peuvent survenir \u00e0 cause de la cavitation. Un fort accent a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis sur la relation qu&rsquo;il existe entre la microstructure du mat\u00e9riau et les m\u00e9canismes d&rsquo;endommagement des mat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 cause de la cavitation. J&rsquo;ai ensuite pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 les outils avec lesquels on peut caract\u00e9riser l&rsquo;agressivit\u00e9 de la cavitation au sein d&rsquo;un \u00e9coulement et les \u00e9quipements utilis\u00e9s pour reproduire la cavitation en laboratoire (sonotrode ou bien tunnel hydrodynamique notamment).<\/p><p>La deuxi\u00e8me partie \u00e9tait ax\u00e9e sur les r\u00e9sultats de mes travaux de recherche qui sont d\u00e9di\u00e9s \u00e0 des applications pour les turbines hydro\u00e9lectriques. J&rsquo;ai d&rsquo;abord rappel\u00e9 l&rsquo;importance de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie hydro\u00e9lectrique dans la production d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie renouvelable au niveau mondial. Les mat\u00e9riaux \u00e9tudi\u00e9s dans le cadre de ma th\u00e8se, qui sont des aciers inoxydables martensitiques utilis\u00e9s dans la plupart des turbines hydro\u00e9lectriques, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 introduit<\/p><p>\u00a0L&rsquo;\u00e9tat microstructural des mat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tat initial (sans endommagement) a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9taill\u00e9 car il permet d&rsquo;expliquer les m\u00e9canismes d&rsquo;endommagement ensuite observ\u00e9s. Quelques sch\u00e9mas des deux dispositifs exp\u00e9rimentaux que nous utilisons au laboratoire pour g\u00e9n\u00e9rer la cavitation ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s. J&rsquo;ai pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 quelques r\u00e9sultats montrant \u00e0 quel point les bulles peuvent \u00eatre de dimensions diff\u00e9rentes en fonction du dispositif exp\u00e9rimental. Quelques animations o\u00f9 on peut voir l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de l&rsquo;endommagement en surface via des observations au microscope \u00e9lectronique \u00e0 balayage par essais interrompus ont \u00e9t\u00e9 partag\u00e9es avec les \u00e9tudiants. J&rsquo;avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait un exercice de vulgarisation \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9crit, avec un article publi\u00e9 sur The Conversation <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/centrales-hydroelectriques-comprendre-la-fissuration-des-turbines-pour-prolonger-leur-duree-de-vie-182158\">(<strong>\u00ab\u00a0Centrales hydro\u00e9lectriques : comprendre la fissuration des turbines pour prolonger leur dur\u00e9e de vie\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong><\/a>), mais le faire \u00e0 l&rsquo;oral \u00e9tait une nouvelle exp\u00e9rience. Ce travail de vulgarisation permet de prendre du recul sur son sujet et savoir mieux structurer et clarifier le message que l&rsquo;on veut d\u00e9livrer.
