Context & summary description of the project :
Networked manufacturing systems based on traditional Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are particularly exposed to cyberattacks. Mostly based on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), they have been designed to isolate manufacturing environments without connection to cyber-infrastructures such as cloud, connectivity with offices, and other manufacturing sites. Hence, low cybersecurity protection levels make such ICS interesting for malicious cyber-attackers. Within a view year only, Cybersecurity has become the number one challenge in industrial systems and infrastructures. Thus, resilience to such attacks through cybersecurity has become one of the most significant concerns of Industry 4.0.
Cybersecurity skills are very difficult to acquire, although every stakeholder in Industrial Environments shall have at least fundamental ones in order to contribute to the resilience of industry and society.

Project objectives :
This project proposes a cybersecurity training concept that builds on teaching cybersecurity in an interactive, role-based approach within a teaching factory environment. Both attack and defense strategies can be explored, and the learning performance of trainees can be evaluated. Thanks to its ludic approach, this training is particularly accessible, even to trainees without any prior IT and Cybersecurity knowledge.

Expected results :
• The concept is to show its feasibility and potential to outperform traditional classroom-based training methods
• A low-cost platform for cyberattack scenarios is used to demonstrate some possibilities to attack CPS
• A gamification-bases training scenario that can be implemented in whichever teaching environment.
