Thesis: Fusion of visible and infrared images

Project leaders :
Mauro DALLA-MURA, PhD supervisor - GIPSA-LAB
Gabriel Jobert, thesis co-supervisor - LYNRED
Aurélien Godet, PhD student

Project research areas : Image Processing, computer vision

Organisations associated with the project : Lynred, GIPSA-LAB

Project description :

As the use of infrared sensors evolves in many areas of industry and becomes more familiar to the general public, new consumer and non-machine oriented needs are emerging. Merging thermal images with visible light adds the necessary context to enable the uninitiated user to fully grasp this new type of information. Applications range from ADAS and thermal analysis of buildings to hunting and even photography...

Project objectives : At the end of the three-year period, to obtain several merger proposals meeting different objectives

Expected results : Pipeline of thermal-visible fusions conditioned by use and tested on a group of subjects put into situations. (braking reflex, pedestrian counting, etc.).

Publications associated with the project : Infrared and visible images fusion for user perceptual enhancement – Aurélien Godet

Planification :
-1st year: Bibliography and development of methods for reprojecting images from one camera to another (novel view synthesis)
-2nd year: Publication on the methods developed and the first LYNRED dataset. Development of fusion pipelines and prediction of user tests.
-3rd year: Analysis of test results, improvement of pipelines. Final pipeline proposal and drafting.
