AugmentIA

AI for augmented engineering

Developing artificial intelligence solutions to enhance human capabilities in engineering, planning and construction.

The AugmentIA Chair aims to explore the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the fields of engineering and construction. Its aim is to develop AI-based tools to enhance human cognitive capacities, in a responsible and ethical approach.

"AugmentIA embodies the meeting of industrial expertise and academic research excellence. This chair opens up a promising path towards augmented engineering that is not only more efficient, but also more responsible."

"Generative artificial intelligence is a hot topic in many sectors. Thanks to the AugmentIA Chair, I am very happy to be able, with the Grenoble INP Foundation, to go beyond the hype and contribute to the operational implementation of such tools in the engineering professions. Initially purely technological developments pose a number of research challenges. The major language models need to be perfected to provide the best possible response to the specific challenges of our businesses, so that we can make the most of their potential despite real scientific obstacles such as continuous learning and the ability to justify the results obtained. The AugmentIA Chair is committed to overcoming these limitations by exploring two key areas: firstly, energy consumption and the carbon impact of current models, a crucial issue in our businesses where environmental exemplarity is an essential requirement, and secondly, ethics and the place of human beings in the use of these techniques, in order to guarantee responsible integration that respects human values. I am convinced that this approach will help transform these challenges into opportunities for our businesses and our society."
